The National Coordinator/Chief Executive Officer(NC/CEO) Mrs Nnenna Akajemeli has stated that continuous implementation of professional development programme for teachers would enhance their skills and teaching method to boost quality service delivery in the educational sector in Nigeria.
The National Coordinator/CEO SERVICOM Presidency, Mrs Nnenna Akajemeli made the statement in her paper presentation at the Federal Ministry of Education’s 2024 Customer Service Week, in Abuja on Thursday November 7th, 2024.
Akajemeli explained that enhancing service delivery in the education sector in Nigeria is vital for fostering a quality educational environment that benefits all stakeholders.
She advised for more funding in the education sector to help reduce some challenges such as poor infrastructure, poor sanitation and learning resources.
Adding that, inadequate funding, shortage of teachers, security concerns and amongst others have been identified as some of the key challenges hindering effective service delivery in education sector in Nigeria.
Akajemeli explained that many schools lack basic facilities like classrooms, sanitation and learning resources, adding that there should be special incentives for teachers posted in the rural areas to help improve learning process of the students.
She further explained that insecurity should be stemmed down for students to go to school, citing the sit-at-home on Mondays in the South-East region and some parts of the North-East.
The National Coordinator maintained that inconsistent policies in the educational sector and socio-cultural barriers which hinders girl-child education is also a big challenge in the educational system in Nigeria.
For measures to enhance service delivery in the education sector, she said “teachers training and development should be deployed, as well as implement continuous professional development programme for teachers to enhance their skills and teaching methods.
“Community engagements that would foster partnerships with parents, local organizations and community leaders should be encouraged in schools”.
The CEO emphasised that enhancing service delivery in the education sector in Nigeria is vital for fostering a quality educational environment that benefits all stakeholders service wide.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Dr Nas’r Sani-Gwarzo in his welcome address, explained that customer service is the foundation on which trust is built, adding that it helps to engage with the government on its policies and programmes.
Sani Gwarzo. also explained that, it is a time to reflect on the new commitment to the Nigerian people by providing inclusive and equitable education for all Nigerians.
He said that empathy in service delivery, innovation, adaptability, accountability, integrity, and collaboration are key principles to move the education sector forward.
