The current leadership of the Bureau of Public Procurement resolves to working closely with other professional bodies as part of the ongoing reform of the Bureau to reposition the procurement sector and to foster transparency, accountability and good governance.
The Director-General, Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Dr. Adebowale A. Adedokun, MCIPS, ACFE, made this known during an interactive session with the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON) in his office here in Abuja
The DG stressed that BPP as a regulatory body is aimed at protecting the interest of Nigeria’s funds and its utilization and implementation of the right projects. The Bureau, through its reforms and policies, brings all professional bodies into one role in order to eliminate quackery and holds them accountable in their various procurement activities.
The Chairman, Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON), Bldr. Dr. Samson Ameh Opaluwah said that, the purpose of the visit is to commend the DG for his reform efforts since his assumption of office and to seek collaboration and support from the Bureau in order to align contract documents with the National building code, as the council wishes to draw the attention of BPP to some of their relevant documents such as; Construction Programmes; Project Quality Management Plan; Health and Safety Plan.
The Chairman sought for data exchange and information sharing between the Builders Council and the BPP, as CORBON is willing to provide an API for the Bureau to access information as it relates to the status of practice license of builders. Adding that the inclusion of Builders into the procurement cadre and activities, as well as monitoring of execution of building projects procured in line with the Bureau’s roles, is important.
He said that observations have been made on the insufficient professional builders in the procurement cadre across various MDAs.
Dr. Adebowale in response emphasized on the need for the Builders Council to create more awareness on the issues involved, itemize them appropriately into categories and write a letter raising concerns as part of procurement reforms in the building aspect.
The DG further suggested that a memorandum of understanding should be done for proper documentation and publicity, as he looks forward to having a better working relationship with CORBON.
