The Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Zaphaniah Jisalo, who inaugurated the Committee yesterday in Abuja called on the Committee members to carry out their duties in line with the legal framework that guides their constitution as the National Honours Award is the country’s highest recognition for individuals who have made significant contributions to Nigeria’s development.
“As we gather here today, we are reminded of the importance of this task. The National Honours Award is a symbol of our nation’s gratitude to those who have dedicated their time, energy, and resources to advancing our country. I charge you to select individuals who embody the values of excellence, integrity, and national service,” Jisalo stated.
He further urged the Committee to ensure fairness, transparency, and integrity throughout the selection process.
The Chairman of the Committee, Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage (Rtd) assured that the Committee, under his leadership, would perform its duties with the highest level of professionalism.
“Our task goes beyond selecting awardees; it is about upholding the ideals of excellence and service that make Nigeria proud. The National Honours Award symbolizes our collective achievements, and the individuals we honour will inspire future generations,” Justice Bage said.
The Committee has members drawn from the six geopolitical zones of the country and representatives from various Ministries and Government Agencies such as: Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Department of State Security Service, Nigeria Intelligence Agency and Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC).
