
The Director-General, Bureau of Public Procurement, Dr. Adebowale A. Adedokun, MCIPS, ACFE, received the United States of America Delegate in his office here in Abuja. The courtesy visit is aimed at establishing a working relationship between the Bureau of Public Procurement and the Embassy of the United States of America.
Speaking during the meeting, the Deputy Economic Counsellor, Embassy of the United State of America, Joseph Giblin, stated that, the purpose of collaborating with the Bureau is to enhance a favorable business relationship between the Nigerian Government and the United States Government through BPP to enable the business space of Nigeria accessible and understandable.
Joseph Giblin further emphasized that, BPP needs to create opportunity for America and other countries to come in and do business with Nigerian government. He sought clarification on procurement processes, especially on e-procurement (BPP Website) and other roles and reforms in the procurement ecosystem.
The DG, BPP, in response, made it known that, BPP as arm of government and regulatory entity ensures transparency, accountability, efficiency and value-for-money which cuts across all strata both locally and internationally. He highlighted some critical roles and reforms of the Bureau such as; Capacity Building, Gender inclusiveness, Technological know-how (e-procurement), as he pointed out that procurement is at the center to create economic opportunities that will attract foreign investments in the country, whereby companies can bid for contracts globally.
Dr. Adebowale assures the Embassy of the United State of America of the Bureau’s readiness to collaborate with the US Embassy. He said there is the need to inform President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR about the opportunity, and a proposal need to be made to facilitate a breakfast meeting to share ideas on creating opportunity for the US and other nations to contribute in Nigeria’s business space, as he looks forward to organizing a business world between Nigerian and American companies that will add value to the economy and to prove that Nigerian Procurement system has tremendously improved.
