FIC Report (Abia State) – The Year 2021 Batch ‘B’ Stream ll Corps Members posted to Abia State have been reminded that they were deliberately assembled from diverse ethnic, religious and socio-economic backgrounds to promote national unity and integration.
The Director General, National Youth Service Corp, NYSC, Brigadier General S. Ibrahim whose address was read by the State Coordinator, Mr. Denis Jingi made this known at the low key Swearing in Ceremony of the new Corps Members at the NYSC permanent Orientation Camp, Umunna, Bende L.G.A, of Abia State.
He reminded the new Corps Members that the Orientation Course was meant to prepare them physically and mentally for their expected contributions to the progress and development of the nation as well as individual feats in the service and post-service years.
The NYSC DG expressed deep appreciation of the unwavering support of the Federal Government for NYSC as demonstrated through sustained provision of resources for the smooth conduct of the operations, highlighted the measures taken by the Federal Government to reduce the high rate of unemployment in the Society.
His words, “You are already aware, the rate of graduate unemployment is of great concern to us as a nation.
Happily, the Federal Government and other stakeholders are leaving no stone unturned in the efforts to address this challenge as clearly demonstrated through various policies and programmes.
As a Scheme that is responsive to prevailing national needs, the National Youth Service Corps, is also assiduous in the implementation of its Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, SAED programme.
“It is meant to prepare Corps Members for self-employment and wealth creation through vocational and entrepreneurial training as well as linkage with financial institutions and other funding sources for business start-up financing.
The SAED training will commence on Camp in the coming days, and I urge you to avail yourselves of this opportunity instead of joining the ranks of unemployed graduates scouting for the rarely available white collar jobs”.
While encouraging the new Corps Members to ensure healthy interactions, exchange ideas that will broaden their understanding of the country and build lasting friendships among them and the host Communities.
Brig. Gen. Ibrahim , however ,thanked the Abia State Government, Local Government Councils, Security Agencies, Traditional Rulers, Corps Employers and other Stakeholders for their support, especially in areas of security and general welfare of Corps Members.
He equally reminded the new Corps Members that the COVID-19 is still ravaging, hence the need to strictly abide by all the NCDC and government directives, even as he lauded the commitment of the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control for insisting on testing Prospective Corps Members, Course officials and Visitors for the virus before admission to Camp, enforcement of physical distancing and wearing of face masks and provision of hand washing points at strategic locations amongst others.
The 1185 Corps Members comprising of 513 males and females 672 were sworn in by the Chief Judge of Abia State, Honourable Justice Arisa Ogwe, who was represented by Justice Benson Anya, during the event which attracted the NYSC Camp Director, Venerable Sam Njoku, Camp Commandant, Major HI Emeruwa, Resident Officer 1, Mr Mike Ochapa, the Representative of the NYSC Area Director, Mr Bwefa Amadu, the Deputy Chief Registrar, Abia State, Uguru Eme Uguru and a host of other dignitaries.
