FIC Report (Benue State) – The Tor Tiv, His Royal Majesty, Professor James Ayatse, has called on the people of Benue State to patronize the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) and support local healthcare services, emphasizing that the state possesses the talent and capacity to compete globally in medical excellence.

Speaking at the Second International Health Investment Summit and Scientific Exhibition of the Teaching Hospital held on Friday, 17th October 2025, in Makurdi, the Tiv Paramount Ruler described Benue as a land richly endowed with human and material resources that must be harnessed for sustainable development.

Professor Ayatse noted that the establishment of the College of Health Sciences and the Teaching Hospital was a product of vision and determination, which today stands as one of Nigeria’s leading centers for medical training, research, and healthcare delivery.

He urged citizens to invest in their health by utilizing available facilities within the state, adding that Benue already has the expertise and infrastructure required for quality healthcare services. The royal father also appealed to hospital workers to treat patients with compassion, respect, and professionalism, stressing that good human relations are essential to building public trust and enhancing patronage.

The Tor Tiv commended the management of BSUTH for its dedication to service and expressed optimism that the institution would soon rank among the foremost medical centers in Nigeria.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Paul Ogwuche, said the summit reflects the Benue State Government’s vision of transforming the health sector into a viable driver of economic growth.

He explained that the theme of this year’s summit, “Exploring the Medical Tourism Potentials at BSUTH: Prospects and Challenges,” underscores the state’s readiness to attract health investments and medical visitors from across the country.

Dr. Ogwuche commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for revitalizing health institutions, training medical personnel, and restoring public confidence in healthcare delivery, noting that Benue is gradually emerging as a medical tourism hub in Nigeria.

A major highlight of the event was the launch of a ₦2 billion Endowment Fund for the expansion of the Therapeutic Centre for Autism and Children with Special Needs at BSUTH.

The summit attracted medical experts, traditional rulers, policymakers, and top government officials from within and outside the state.
