FIC Report (Niger State) – Niger state Governor Mohammed Umar had expressed his profound shock over the devastating tanker explosion that took place in the early hours of today, at Dikko Junction along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway, resulting in the loss of several lives.
Reports revealed that the victims were trying to siphon fuel from the overturned tanker into jerrycans and containers when the explosion transpired.
Witnesses said some individuals brought their generators in doing the fuel transfer. An eye witness recounted, “ I saw the bodies of the victims, but I cannot confirm the exact number of fatalities. Among those who lost their lives were pregnant woman and children.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, Governor Bago described the incident as worrisome, heartbreaking, and unfortunate.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased, as well as for the healing of the injured.
The Governor urged the community to prioritize safety and act responsibly, especially in the wake of such tragic events.
He has directed relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to take necessary actions and called on security agencies for onward caution.
