The Federal Government has restated its commitment to partner and collaborate with relevant International Agencies, such as the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and other stakeholders, to improve the quality of education in Nigeria and achieve national aspirations and objectives for growth and Youth development.
The Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, made this known during his maiden function at the occasion of the 2019 International Youth Day Celebration, held at Symposium 1, Merit House, Abuja.
Mr. Dare stated that the theme of this year’s celebration –”Transforming Education”– is very relevant to the present administration’s deliberate plan and committed efforts to harness the talents and skills of the Youth, empowering them to achieve national and sustainable human development, through the instrument  of qualitative education.
He affirmed that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, is committed to addressing the various challenges facing the Nigerian Youth, adding that the development of Nigerian Youth will receive supreme priority.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Olusade Adesola, in his welcome address, said that the International Youth Day Occasion, constitute part of the United Nations’ broader World Programme of Action for Youth (WPAY), an initiative, targeted at promoting the general well-being and livelihood of young people in developing countries.
Mr. Olusade Adesola added that the day is also aimed at mobilizing the youths to play significant role in the development of their societies. He also used the opportunity to specially appreciate UNFPA, Parastatals under the Ministry, such as the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre and National Youth Service Corps for their constant support.
