FIC Report (Edo State) – The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) has made a significant stride in its Public Relations efforts with the unveiling of its Media Office. The Commissioning ceremony, attended by top Government Officials, Dignitaries, Medical Staff, and Stakeholders, took place on Friday, January 30th, 2026, marking a new chapter in the hospital’s commitment to transparency and Communication.
Speaking at the Commissioning ceremony, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of UBTH, Prof. Ize-Iyamu, highlighted the importance of effective communication in healthcare delivery. He stated that the new Media Office will serve as a vital tool in disseminating accurate and timely information about the hospital’s activities, achievements, and successes.
According to Prof. Ize-Iyamu, the Media Office will serve as a One-Stop-Shop for Journalists, providing easy access to information, Press releases, and expert opinions on various health-related issues. It is a strategic move to bridge the gap between the hospital’s Management and the Media.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua of Edo State, commended the hospital’s leadership for its visionary initiative in establishing the Media Office. He described it as a vital tool for strengthening the hospital’s image and transparency. The Commissioner emphasized that effective communication is key to building trust and confidence between the hospital and its Stakeholders, including Patients, their Families, and the general Public.
The Media Office, established to provide a platform for accurate and timely information dissemination, is seen as a strategic move to bridge the gap between the hospital’s Management and the Media.


The launch of the Media Office is expected to enhance the hospital’s visibility, promote its services, and showcase its achievements in healthcare delivery. It also underscores the hospital’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance.
