FIC Report (Abia State) – The United Nations Team Leader on Habitat, Dr. Omoayena Odunbaku, has described as encouraging the Abia State government’s resolve to realize a structural plan that would turn around the economic and aesthetics beauty of cities in the State.
Odunbaku who made the observation during a three day Town Hall and Sensitization Programme on Aba Master Plan said the Plan to develop the Commercial City started 31 years ago after the creation of the State adding that successive administrations abandoned it until Ikpeazu began its implementation.
The UN Habitat Leader argued that if successive governments after Ajobena had followed the project as planned, Aba and other Cities in the State would have realized the project as packaged.
The Town Hall Meeting attracted Traditional Rulers, relevant Stakeholders and President-Generals of Town Unions.
In his response, Abia State Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Urban Planning, Dr. Francis Onwuchuruba lauded Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for implementing a 31-year-old dream of rebuilding the State by putting the relevant infrastructure in place.
He described Abia Structural Plan as a gold mine which according to him will give the State good economic, infrastructural and aesthetics benefits in no distant future, even as he described it as a legacy project that is worthy of commendation.
Onwuchuruba, therefore, tasked the people of the State to embrace and support the Project and lamented the spate of building collapse across the Country.
Sir. Onwuchuruba called on Builders and Stakeholders to cooperate with Town Planning Authorities to execute their mandate of sanitizing the building industry.
