FIC Report (Kaduna State) – The Vice President Kashim Shettima has praised the Kaduna State Government for pioneering the establishment of a Council on Skills, describing it as a national model for workforce development, youth employment, and inclusive economic growth.
In a letter to Governor Uba Sani, the Vice President, who also chairs the National Council on Skills, commended the successful inauguration of the council, noting that it represents a strategic response to Nigeria’s human capital and unemployment challenges.
He stated that the initiative sets a benchmark for sub-national governments, highlighting Kaduna’s efforts as a major milestone in advancing coordinated skills development across the country.
The Vice President noted that the creation of a dedicated institutional framework for skills development demonstrates a proactive commitment to bridging the unemployment gap and fostering human capital development.
He described the Kaduna initiative as a reflection of an integrated vision for economic transformation, emphasising its importance in driving sustainable growth at the sub-national level.
VP Shettima further explained that the Kaduna model supports a “bottom-up” approach to skills acquisition, ensuring that vocational and technical training programmes effectively reach grassroots communities.
He also called for stronger collaboration between the National Secretariat and the Kaduna State Council to harmonise standards and expand the impact of ongoing skills development interventions.
The commendation followed deliberations at a recent session of the National Council on Skills, where Kaduna State’s initiative was recognised as a significant policy achievement.
