Warner Music Group, a leading American multinational entertainment and record label conglomerate, has expressed interest in partnering with the Federal Government of Nigeria to invest in the country’s thriving music industry.

The company paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa, in Abuja at the weekend, to discuss plans for global expansion with a focus on Nigeria.

Alfonso Perez-Soto, President, Emerging Markets at Warner Music Group, outlined the company’s vision for investment in Nigeria’s creative industry, emphasizing their commitment to supporting local talents and driving innovation.

“Our journey began in New York in 2017, and we created a blueprint to develop our industry and support our company in Africa. We have achieved significant investments in companies like Afrikori Warner and Chocolate City Record label in Nigeria. We have major artists who have been incredibly successful from Nigeria, such as Burna Boy, CKay, and Joe Boy, among others. Our intention is to introduce ourselves and explore potential areas of collaboration and partnership with the government.”

In response, the Minister highlighted the importance of protecting intellectual property rights and developing robust infrastructure to support the growth of the sector.

Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa emphasized the need for alignment with the Ministry’s eight-point agenda, particularly in smart and strategic partnerships and policy frameworks that will provide a conducive business environment.

“We are eager to collaborate with you to grow the industry, create jobs, and contribute to the country’s economic growth.”

The meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to explore various avenues for collaboration and mutual growth. Warner Music Group is a global music entertainment company across recorded music, music publishing, and artist services. Given the significance of Nigeria within the African music landscape, the company welcomes the opportunity to engage directly with the Ministry of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy.
