
The Honourable Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, has charged the management and staff of the Sustainable Power and Irrigation for Nigeria (SPIN) Project to redouble their efforts toward achieving food security through irrigated agriculture, effective dam management, and improved hydropower generation.
Prof. Utsev gave the charge during a working visit to the SPIN Project Office in Abuja. He was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Emanso Umobong, alongside some Directors of the Ministry.
He reminded the staff that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, remains committed to delivering on its Renewed Hope Agenda across all sectors. According to him, as a flagship project under the Ministry with a mandate to scale up irrigated farming, strengthen dam management, and boost hydropower generation, SPIN must intensify efforts to meet its targets.
The Minister expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the World Bank for ensuring the smooth take-off of the project, noting that SPIN would significantly enhance food production, improve hydropower generation, create job opportunities for the teeming youth and add value to the lives of millions of Nigerians.
Prof. Utsev commended the management and staff for the progress recorded so far and urged them to sustain the momentum.
In his remarks, the National Coordinator of SPIN, Engr. Ipinlaye Olaiya, expressed gratitude to the Minister, the Permanent Secretary, and the Ministry’s management team for their unwavering support, which he said has contributed to the smooth take-off of the project. He reaffirmed the commitment and determination of the SPIN team to deliver fully on its mandate.
Engr. Olaiya later conducted the Honourable Minister, the Permanent Secretary, and other Directors of the Ministry on a tour of the project’s proposed new office located in Apo, Abuja.
