As part of its move to improve the lives of women, children and the vulnerable, the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs has expressed its willingness to partner with Near Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation in the distribution of palliatives to some communities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Barrister (Mrs) Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye who disclosed this weekend, in Abuja, during the flag off of the initiative, stated that the distribution of the food items was aimed at cushioning the effect of hardship amongst citizens in the country, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Administration.
The Minister, who was represented by her Aide, Musa Abdulrahman informed that through the initiative, 200 and 300 food packages containing rice, spaghetti, beans, macaroni and other cereals will be distributed to women in Kpeyegyi and Jikwoyi communities respectively.
She assured that the programme will also be extended to other communities in the FCT and reiterated the Ministry’s avowed commitment to the realization of its mandate in line with the policy thrust of the present Administration.
Barrister Kennedy-Ohanenye called on other Non-Governmental Organisations, Philanthropists and well-meaning Nigerians to join hands with the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Administration in providing succour for the less privileged in the society.
Earlier, the Project Manager, Near Foundation, Abdulmalik Bulakos, stated that the Organization was ready to partner with the Ministry and relevant government agencies in ensuring that they reach out to the Vulnerable and Internally Displaced Persons in the FCT.
Also speaking, Etsu of Jikwoyi in Abuja Municipal Area Council, (AMAC), His Royal Highness, Rev. Bawa Jetta applauded the initiative, which he said will go a long way in cushioning the effect of poverty in the area.
He commended the present Administration for putting up various initiatives that have direct impact on the lives of women, children and the vulnerable, especially in the current economic reality.
On his part, the District Head of Kpeyegyi Community (AMAC), Chief Gagara Peche, applauded Near Foundation for partnering with the Ministry towards increasing food supplies to the people.
