Women Journalists Seek Stronger Partnership With Benue Government On Investment Drive

FIC Report (Benue State) – The Benue State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), on Tuesday, 11th November 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the Special Adviser to the Governor on International Investment, Hon. Alex Adingi, in Makurdi.

Receiving the delegation, the State Chairperson of NAWOJ, Comrade Elizabeth Achagh, commended the Special Adviser and his team for their efforts in attracting both local and foreign investments into the state. She particularly applauded the Benue Palm Project, noting that journalists in the state have benefited from the initiative since it was launched by Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Alia at the NUJ House.

Comrade Achagh emphasized that empowering women through agricultural and investment-based programmes would significantly improve livelihoods and contribute to the state’s economic growth. She assured Hon. Adingi of adequate publicity and collaboration from women journalists across the state to promote government initiatives and investment opportunities.

The Chairperson further disclosed that Benue women journalists will be hosting the Conference of Women Journalists in the North Central Zone—an event that will provide a platform for the state government, through the Office of the Special Adviser on International Investment, to showcase Benue’s vast investment potentials to participants and visiting investors. She therefore solicited support and sponsorship for the upcoming conference.

Responding, Hon. Alex Adingi appreciated the women journalists for their visit and for their continued role in public enlightenment and promotion of government programmes and policies. He assured them of the support of his office, reaffirming the government’s commitment to ensuring women are fully carried along in the state’s investment agenda.

He noted that the government looks forward to deeper collaboration with organized bodies such as NAWOJ, acknowledging the significant role of women in development. According to him, women remain more zealous, productive, and committed to nation-building.

Hon. Adingi revealed that the Benue State Government is currently putting in place laws and regulatory frameworks to facilitate ease of doing business with international investors. He announced that the state will soon commence the production of solar panels, lithium batteries, and coal mining operations, leading to increased industrial activity and expanded investment opportunities.

He commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for the massive developmental strides across the state and for ensuring sustainability of ongoing projects. He added that foreign programmes targeted at youth empowerment will further boost Benue’s investment profile and human capacity development.

Hon. Adingi also informed the delegation that Governor Alia has appointed him as the Point Man for Buruku Local Government to oversee federal and state government projects in the area. He disclosed plans to establish a farm project for women journalists in the state for economic sustainability.

In a vote of thanks, Former National Official of NAWOJ, Comrade Dorothy Abellega, applauded the Special Adviser for the laudable initiatives his office is pursuing. She assured him of continued media support from women journalists across Benue State.
