ABUJA – (Federal Ministry of Science & Technology Report) – The Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Bitrus Bako Nabasu has stressed the need to use the World Science Day to engage the wider public in debates on emerging scientific issues.
In his address during the 2018 World Science Day celebration, Bitrus Nabasu said that Science is relevant to the daily lives of humans and therefore citizens must be kept well informed of developments in the Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Sector.
He also noted that the celebration coincided with the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adding that everyone has a right to participate in and benefit from science for sustainable development.
“The World Science Day underscores the role scientists play in broadening the understanding of the remarkable environment which humans live in and in making societies more sustainable through linking science more closely with the society,” the Permanent Secretary stated.
