The 100m finals were the main highlight of Athletics Day 4 where the nation’s young athletes took to the track to showcase their prowess at the ongoing National Youth Games taking place in Asaba Delta State.
The two races; boys and girls 100m final provided a whole lot of excitement for the many fans who thronged the Stephen Keshi Stadium main bowl from Asaba, Onitsha and all over the nation to watch the game.
Team Anambra and Ondo produced the champions in the girls and boys 100m events, respectively, First was the Girls 100m final where Rosemary Nwankwo of Anambra State emerged champion after pulling away from the rest of other contenders to win the race with a wide gap, crossing the line in a time of 12.24s and the closest rival is Grace Idehen of Delta State who finished at a time of 12.58 and the third position goes to Ayomide Abass of Oyo State at a time of 12.60.
In the boys final, Olumide Ibikunle of Ondo State delivered a exciteting performance in the boys final, coming through with a wonderful show of strength to win the gold with a time of 11.20s. Muyideen Adeniji of Ogun State finished second in 11.37s, while Jacob Olumor of Delta State came third in a time of 11.38s.
It is worthy to note also that in the boys 1500m final, David Gyang of Plateau State won the gold in a time of 4:12.11. Messi Opeyemi of Osun State finished second in 4:17.04, and Moses Gift of Delta State came third in 4:17.16.
The rush for medals continues as the Game enters the fifth day live at Stephen Keshi Township Stadium, Asaba, Delta State.
