Abia Housing Commissioner Commends National Association Of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Abia Chapter

The Abia State Commissioner for Housing, Chief Chinagorom Nwankpa has commended the efforts of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Abia.

Chapter in carrying out Voter Education Campaign in all the Senatorial Zones in the State.

Chief Nwankpa made the statement when the newly elected Executive and other Members of the Abia NAWOJ paid him a courtesy call in his office at the Nnamdi Azikwe Secretariat.

The Commissioner thanked the Women for such a laudable project. He, however, regretted that the Voter Education Campaign ought to have been done by Politicians seeking elective positions.

In his words, “We the politicians ought to have shown more concern in ensuring that we educate our people on all they need to know about the forthcoming General Elections.” He thanked the Women Journalists for their thoughtfulness, emphasizing that they might not know the impact of what voter education they are doing until after the elections.

The Commissioner used the occasion to appreciate Journalists across the country for the balance reporting seen in their reports now “we have a better press now than the military era’, he added.

The Commissioner thanked God for a peaceful NAWOJ election and appreciated the Association for electing the Ministry’s Public Relations Officer adding that Ogwo is hardworking and she will take the Association to a greater height.

Speaking earlier the Chairman of Abia NAWOJ, Comrade Josephine Ogwo said they came to present the new Executive to the Commissioner, also ask for his fatherly blessings and support in their proposed Voter Education Campaign.

She informed the Commissioner that the Association has mapped out plans to embark on Voter Education Campaign to the nooks and crannies of the State, to educate the citizens on the moral right to resist any form of selling and buying of votes or being used as political thugs to disrupt elections and reach out to the poorest of the poor in this Christmas period.

She expressed the hope that by the end of the Voter Education Campaign that the State will have a well educated, enlightened and active electorate before the 2023 election.
