The Surveyor General of the Federation (SGoF), Surv. Abuduganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin has emphasized the need for Nigeria to evolve a National Geospatial Data Infrastructure (NGDI) in order to own her data and every other information pertaining the land.

Surv. Adebomehin laid the emphasis while briefing the newly appointed Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arch. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa and that of State for Housing and Urban Development, Alhaji Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo in Abuja.

According to him, many countries have developed their own NGDI rather than depending on the information being provided by Goggle adding that the data being provided by Goggle in some cases are inaccurate because it do not have the correct coordinates.

He said the Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation (OSGoF) is already working on the NGDI but currently hampered by paucity of funds. He also said that the OSGoF requires adequate funds to be able to secure server and other devices for an active High Performance Data Centre so as to store data in the clouds.

The SGoF commended the ministers for the concerns already shown by them and their pledge of support to the Office.
