—-Admonishes all to Heed Warnings by Authorities in Coming Days and Weeks
Director-General, Directorate of Technical Aid Corps, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Yusuf Buba Yakub, has conveyed deep condolences to the Government and people of Adamawa State over the successive boat mishaps that reportedly killed over twenty indigenes of the State by midday Monday.
Buba said it was time for those who live in flood-prone areas across the State to heed the early warning signals of the coming days and weeks in order to prevent any further loss of lives to the yearly menace of the heavy water bodies that threaten those areas at this time of the year.
In a message released to his media handlers, Monday, in Abuja, the DTAC DG and former Federal lawmaker said he was, particularly, saddened by the fact that the unfortunate incident of the boat, said to be carrying over forty passengers at the time of the accident, and had capsized at Kwatan Mallam Adamu, Gurin, in Fufore Local Government Area of the State earlier in the day, came barely two days after a similar incident in the State and in another part of the country.
While noting that, with the release of water from Cameroon’s Lagdo Dam and the incessant rains that characterize this period, indigenes of those States that border Cameroon, including those along the banks of the two great Rivers, Benue and Niger, must brace for the reality of the moment and seek safety on high grounds.
The Adamawa-born technocrat said those around Fufore and Jimeta in Adamawa State and other parts of the State must at this time heed warnings from the Government of the day in order to stay safe. While urging the State Government to be more alive to issues of awareness and sensitisation at this time, he also called on traditional and religious leaders across the State to join hands with the authorities to ensure that the message of the threatening water bodies is received by all.
“It is rather unfortunate that a good number of our innocent brothers, sisters, mothers as well as fathers and even children lost their lives in these tragic circumstances. We pray for the peaceful repose of all such lives consumed in those tragic occurrences and for comfort for their individual families, “the erstwhile Gombi/Hong Rep ended.
