FG ASSURES FULL IMPLEMENTATION OF ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE (AMR) POLICY IN THE COUNTRY

The Minister of State for Environment, Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako has assured Stakeholders and Partners of the full implementation of Antimicrobial Resistant Policy (AMR) document.

Dr. Salako said this while launching the ARM policy to increase the fight against the menace of Antimicrobial Resistance nationwide.

The Minister used the forum to call on Stakeholders to support the government in ensuring full implementation of the policy for its socio-economic benefits to our dear nation.

The Minister also reiterated the efforts of the Ministry aimed at laying solid foundation for ARM surveillance, situation analysis, capacity building, data collation/processing, monitoring and evaluation and response to health challenges for effective control of ARM.

Earlier, the representative of the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) Mr. Koffy Kouacou Dominique, in his goodwill message stated that they will provide technical support for the fight against the AMR.

Mr. Dominique further disclosed that the economy of nations will be affected if challenges are not mitigated.

He also noted that the policy is aligned with FAO Nigeria Country Programming Framework (2024-2027) in partnership with Nigeria.

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), and other relevant stakeholders in their seperate goodwill messages pledged to support the full implementation of the AMR policy in the country.

The Permanent Secretary, Mahmud Adam Kambari represented by the Director of Pollution Control and Environmental Health, Usman Abdullah Bokani thanked all stakeholders for their contributions to the completion of the policy in good time.

Kambari stressed that the policy was developed with wide consultations from relevant stakeholders like Non- Governmental Organisation (NGO), Civil Society Organisations (CSO) and Development Partners as well as policy makers to reduce the threat of AMR in all sectors of human endeavour.
