The Acting National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of SERVICOM Presidency, Mrs. Helen Lawal, on 7th October, 2026, took the advocacy for citizen-focused service delivery to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in Abuja, as activities marking the 2026 International Customer Service Week intensified across Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
The global event is being observed this year from 5th to 9th October, 2026 with the theme “THE EXTRA MILE”. Mrs. Lawal described the celebration as “an important reminder of the value of going a little bit further for every customer and also to remind teams that service excellence is built on consistent small acts that exceed expectation”.
She reiterated that “every extra mile taken by staff strengthens the bond between organisations and the customers they serve” and brought to the fore the commitment of the leadership of both agencies towards citizen-focused delivery. She appreciated the Executive Secretary of TETFund, the Managing Director of CREDICORP, Management and their SERVICOM Units for organising the week, noting that it marked “a critical step to sustain citizen focused service delivery” and aligned with global best practice to reward frontline staff.

Mrs. Lawal emphasised that ‘GOING THE EXTRA MILE’ aligned directly with “SERVICOM’s mandate of service excellence, integrity, accountability, efficiency and commitment. It is more than a slogan — it is a strategic call to action for MDAs to elevate service delivery”.
At TETFund, where the event was held at the Fund’s Auditorium with massive attendance of directors and staff, the Executive Secretary, Arc. Sonny S. T. Echono, in his welcome address described the theme as timely because “It challenges us to look beyond merely doing what is required but also to embrace a culture of going beyond expectations”.
Echono noted that for TETFund, the responsibility was even more significant because its mandate affects tertiary education and the future of the nation. “At TETFund, we go beyond processing files, approving interventions, releasing funds or implementing projects. We serve institutions, support students and academics, we provide funding for research and innovation,” he said.
“Therefore, every interaction we have with our stakeholders matters” and “Every telephone call answered courteously, every enquiry attended to promptly, every file processed efficiently, every complaint resolved professionally, and every commitment honoured contributes to the image and credibility of TETFund”. He added.
While declaring the week open. He challenged staff to ask “What more can I do to make the service process and experience better?”. He insisted that “Going the extra mile does not necessarily mean doing something extraordinary. Sometimes, it means being punctual, responding promptly, giving accurate information, treating beneficiaries with courtesy and respect, taking ownership of a problem instead of passing it from one desk to another. It is understanding that the person before us is not an interruption to our work; is the reason TETFund exists”.
The Nodal Officer, Dr. Ebere Nwobu, stated that “Going the extra mile does not necessarily mean doing extraordinary things. Sometimes, it is as simple as responding promptly to a request, listening attentively to a beneficiary, providing accurate information, showing courtesy, following up on an unresolved matter, or taking ownership of a problem”. The organisation also unveiled and launched its Customer Care Policy Handbook.
At CREDICORP, Mrs. Lawal commended the Corporation’s “Know Your Right Guide” for deepening engagement and noted its cultural re-orientation role in helping Nigerians see credit as a tool to improve lives.
In her welcome address, Head, Risk and Compliance, Mrs. Asari Etuk stated that as an organisation that served the public, the credit corp was intentional in partnering with SERVICOM for efficient service delivery and also to go the extra mile for its numerous customers. The Executive Director, Credit and Portfolio Management, Mrs. Aisha Abdullahi, added that the organisation’s operations were driven by technology to ensure there are no human interference especially in the approval process of credit to deserving members of the public irrespective of tribe, language or location.
At both agencies, Mrs. Lawal charged all MDAs to reaffirm commitment to service excellence and build a culture where exceptional service becomes standard practice.
