In an emotion laden reception for the newly elected Lord Mayor of Leeds City Council, the Hon Dr Asabe Vilita Bashir, the Director- General of Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development has stated that hard work pays as she extols the Councillor Abigail Marshal Katung- the newly elected Lord Mayor of the Great City of Leeds in United Kingdom.
The Director-General made this statement recently in her office when she receives in audience the newly elected Lord Mayor of Leeds City Council, Mrs Katung who before her academic sojourn in the United Kingdom did her mandatory one-year National Youth Service at the Centre.
Dr Bashir reiterated the need for the Centre’s staff to be committed to duty while describing the Lord Mayor as a great ambassador not only to the Centre but also to the entire nation having to campaign for and won the election in diaspora despite her colour.
The elated DG was very thankful to Almighty for her election as the Lord Mayor and charge her to always extend the good hand of fellowship to Nigerians including all Centre’s staff.
Speaking during the courtesy visit, the Lord Mayor Abigail Marshal Katung describe the reception after twenty-four years as very warm and cordial, she thanked the Director-General for her magnanimity in inducting her into the prestigious Nigerian Female Hall of fame.
She stated that the induction along side-by-side other prominent Nigerian women who have excelled in their chosen fields is a clear testament that Nigeria values hard work.
The highlights of the event were the group photographs with the Director-General, Hon Dr Asabe Vilita Bashir, the Lord Mayor Abigail Mashal Katung, the former Acting DG of the Centre, Mrs Florence Iheme, the Management staff and she was conducted round the Nigerian Female Hall of Fame where she signed a condolence register for the late Director-General, Ms Onyeka Onwuenu the iconic Singer who have passed on.
