Honourable Minister, Federal Ministry of Tourism, Lola Ade- John has said that Taraba State stands as a profound symbol of historic relevance in the development of the tourism industry in the country, highlighting its rich cultural heritage, natural beauty and significant potential for tourism growth.
The Honourable Minister’s announcement came during her courtesy visit to the Governor of Taraba State, His Excellency, Agbu Kefas, alongside Mr. Sobowale Junior, a prominent tourism investor and representative of tourism conglomerates from the United Kingdom.
According to the Minister, Mr. Sobowale Junior, the proprietor of Seal Holdings Ltd, has expressed his keen interest in collaborating with the Taraba State government to explore opportunities for enhancing tourism development in the region.
“The UK-based investor is currently interested in establishing collaborative ventures and forming partnerships with Gashaka Gumti National Park and the esteemed Mambilla Plateau beverage company. This company is well-known for producing the renowned High Land Tea, a premium beverage that has gained a strong following. This collaboration presents an exciting opportunity for both parties to leverage their strengths and expertise for mutual benefit and sustainable growth.” she stressed.
Lola Ade-John urged the State Government to create a tourism strategy for the state that promotes the use of local products to produce tourism materials, noting that these materials should be made from raw materials that are locally sourced and available within the state. She emphasized the need to work together to develop a tourism sector that the state can be proud of.
The Governor of Taraba State, His Excellency Agbu Kefas, conveyed a compelling message through his deputy, Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Alkali, who urged the Federal government, relevant stakeholders and potential investors to collaborate in enhancing the infrastructure, services and overall visitor experience at the Gashaka Gumti National Park. His emphasis on the pivotal role of hospitality in unlocking the park’s tourism potential underscores the need for concerted efforts in developing the natural treasure into a globally renowned destination.
Meanwhile, the Honourable Minister visited the Palace of the Chief of Gembu, Shehu Audu Baju. She appreciated the beauty of the Mambilla Plateau and highlighted its potential as a tourist attraction for both local and foreign visitors. She also mentioned that the federal government is considering building an airstrip on the Mambilla Plateau to enhance tourism development in the area.
In response, Chief Shehu Audu Baju expressed his people’s happiness and willingness to protect all tourism investments on the Mambilla Plateau. He emphasized that the region enjoys a peaceful environment and stable hydroelectric power, which are essential for tourism development. According to the Chief, the Mambilla Plateau has the potential to become a tourist paradise in the state and is comparable to the Obudu Highlands.
