Kano NUJ Establishes Committee for 2024 Delegates Conference in Owerri

FIC Report (Kano State) – Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has inaugurated a seven-man committee to oversee the 8th Triennial National Delegates Conference in Owerri, Imo State. The conference is scheduled to take place from November 26th to November 28th, 2024. This significant event will bring together journalists from across the country to discuss key issues and elect new leadership.

According to Abubakar Shehu Kwaru, Secretary NUJ, Kano State Council, “the committee’s inauguration marks a crucial step towards ensuring the state’s delegation is well-prepared for the conference.” He emphasized the importance of effective representation and active participation in shaping the union’s future.

The committee, chaired by Comrade Usman Bello, Director of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Information, comprises experienced journalists from various media outlets. Other members include Comrade Lurwanu Idris Malikawa Garu of Radio Kano, Nasiru Yusuf Ibrahim of ARTV, Uba Abdullahi of Information Chapel, Mustapha Gambo, the council’s vice chairman, and Hauwa Zahradeen, the assistant secretary, who will serve as secretary of the committee.

The NUJ National Executive Council (NEC) has also established a nine-member Credentials Committee, chaired by Comrade Mike Ikeogwu, to oversee the union’s election. This committee will ensure delegates’ eligibility and maintain the conference’s integrity.

Preparations for the conference are underway, with guidelines and timetables released by the Credentials Committee. The event promises to be a pivotal moment for the NUJ, as members come together to address pressing issues and chart the union’s course.

As the conference approaches, the Kano State Council and the national leadership are working tirelessly to ensure its success. With the committee in place and preparations underway, the stage is set for a productive and impactful event that will shape the future of journalism in Nigeria.
