FIC Report (Delta State) – The Delta State Police Command has reiterated the Command’s commitment to enforce the ban on the use of fireworks and other pyrotechnics as part of measures to ensure a safe and peaceful Yuletide season.
The Commissioner of Police Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, announced that the ban on fireworks is still in force and that the command will be enforcing it strictly. It includes ban on the use, sale and display of pyrotechnics, including fireworks and firecrackers known as ‘knock-out’, and ‘banger’.
A statement released by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP. Edafe Bright, stated that this decision comes as part of ongoing efforts to prevent and reduce crime as experience shows that criminally minded persons can take advantage of the season to unleash terror on law-abiding residents.
The statement therefore, advised parents and guardians to caution their children and wards to desist from using these items. The CP’s statement equally warned retailers to withdraw from the display and sale of these products, as anyone found wanting would be arrested and prosecuted.
The CP further directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police officers, and Tactical Commanders to monitor strict compliance and address any violations within their respective Areas of Responsibility.
The CP however, expressed appreciation for the cooperation of Deltans in upholding the ban and enjoined citizens to always report incidents of use or sale of fireworks to the nearest police station or by calling the command control room numbers:
– 08036684974
– 08114895600
– 08025666914
While wishing all Deltans and the general public a Merry Christmas and prosperous New-Year in Advance.
Signed
Felix Ijomah
