FIC Report (Lagos State) – Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has emphasized the need for closer cooperation between state and federal governments to support and revitalize Nigeria’s industries.

Speaking on Saturday, February 15, through his deputy, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Sanwo-Olu received the Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Enoh, at the Deputy Governor’s Official Residence in Ikoyi, Lagos. He highlighted how a united approach between both levels of government could drive economic growth and create a more sustainable business environment.

“Our industries are the backbone of the economy,” Sanwo-Olu stated. “If we work together, we can provide the necessary support to keep businesses thriving, rather than watching them relocate due to a lack of government intervention.”

He pointed to recent examples, such as Unilever’s departure from Nigeria, attributing such moves to businesses feeling unsupported by government policies. To counter this trend, the governor emphasized the need for a more responsive approach to engaging with businesses. He highlighted the “BOS Meet Business” initiative—an effort by his administration to directly engage with industry leaders, understand their challenges, and develop solutions.

Sanwo-Olu also acknowledged that some industrial challenges go beyond state-level solutions and require collaboration with federal government agencies. He expressed appreciation for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to create a dedicated ministry focused on industry, trade, and investment, calling it a positive step toward fostering a more business-friendly climate.

During his visit, Senator John Owan Enoh explained that his team was in Lagos for an Industrial Tour aimed at gaining firsthand insight into the struggles faced by businesses across the country.

“This hands-on approach will allow us to craft policies that genuinely address industrial challenges,” Enoh stated. “By creating a more favorable business environment, we can drive national economic growth and ensure a brighter future for industries.”

The minister commended Lagos State for its commitment to supporting businesses and assured that the federal government remains dedicated to fostering industrial development for the good of the nation.
