Benue ALGON Chairman Praises Gov. Alia’s Achievements, Seeks Prayers for Continued Progress

FIC Report (Benue State) – The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Benue State chapter, Mr. Maurice Orwough, has commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for his remarkable achievements in less than two years in office.

Speaking at his Thanksgiving Mass in Umenger, Guma Local Government Area (LGA), on March 2nd, 2025, Orwough, who also serves as the Chairman of Guma LGA, acknowledged the governor’s efforts in improving the lives of Benue residents and urged the people to continue praying for him.

He highlighted the Alia administration’s success in restoring peace across several communities, including Guma, which has enabled many displaced persons to return to their ancestral homes and farms.

“We are not here for politics but to thank God for what He has done through Governor Alia in my life and for the people of Guma. The construction of the Daudu-Gbajimba road is progressing steadily, thanks to the governor,” Orwough said.

Expressing gratitude for his own political journey, he noted that under Alia’s government, he had been appointed Assembly Liaison Officer, elected as Guma LGA Chairman, and subsequently nominated as ALGON Chairman—making him the youngest person to hold these positions in the state’s history.

He called on the people of Benue to support Governor Alia’s re-election for continued development in Guma and the state.

Governor Alia, represented by his deputy, Sam Ode, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining peace and ensuring that Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) return home, which would, in turn, boost agricultural productivity.

Similarly, the Deputy Chief Whip of the Benue State House of Assembly, Mr. Alfred Emberga, praised Orwough for his impactful leadership and revealed that lawmakers were working on legislation to strengthen local government operations.

In his sermon, Rev. Fr. Joseph Pila prayed for lasting peace in Benue and Nigeria while emphasizing the importance of maintaining a strong relationship between the church and the government for development. He also advised politicians to exercise caution in their speech, warning against the negative impact of gossip.

The event was attended by members of the Benue State Executive Council, local government chairmen, lawmakers, and traditional rulers, among others.
