The Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON) has inducted 433 newly qualified surveyors, with the theme: Beyond the Seal: Elevating Your Brand, Voice, and Value as a Professional “ the ceremony took place at Chida International Conference Centre, Abuja today.
The Chairman of the occasion, the Surveyor General of the Federation (SGOF) Abduganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin in his address said “And I want to say it’s a new dawn of a promising future where your expertise will be needed in the shaping of the nation. Because as surveyors, the whole nation as well as the world relies on surveyor as an expert witness and provides the critical framework upon which nations are built Nigeria inclusive.”
While encouraging the inductees, he said “the induction signifies not just the hard work you have put in, but equally your dedication. And I want to say it’s a new dawn of a promising future where your expertise will be needed in the shaping of the nation.”
SGOF assured the new surveyors saying “We will champion your development through ongoing learning opportunities and collaborative studies that encourage the exchange of knowledge and best practices. I applaud each and every one of you, to embrace the ethical principles that underpin our profession. Let accuracy and precision be your guiding stars and let the pursuit of excellence define your every endeavor.”
Honourable Minister of Housing and Urban Development Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa in his goodwill message said “It is pleasure to witness the inauguration of these new members into the noble profession of survey, first and foremost let me congratulate the council for this unwavering commitment to upholding excellence, professionalism and ethical standards in survey profession, surveying is critical in the fiscal economy and infrastructural development of our great nation.“
He said to inductees “your induction today bring additional number to survey in our dear nation, I must say is a good development, considering the fact that as Surveyors, you provide essential services in infrastructural development which is the hallmark of Mr President Renewed Hope Agenda, to all new inductees you are stepping into the world where new technology, geo spatial intelligence and innovation are reshaping all our professions, you must not rest on your academic laurel embrace continuous learning, adhere to the code of ethics and conducts above all be a good ambassador of the profession wherever you find yourself, the future of land administration, urban planning and development lies significantly on your.“
Former Minister of Environment and past Registrar of SURCON, Suleiman Hassan – Zarma in his good will message said “Let me start by congratulating the Surveyor General of the Federation is your ability to think out of the box that we are witnessing the induction today.
He charged the inductees “we expect some of you to push the frontiers of the profession and to break all the barriers that may affect the profession, any setting you find yourself look at how you can go in and add value to the services that are being provided in agriculture, housing health, urban development and so on and to add value to what we see today in Nigeria and I am sure you wont have regret to be a surveyor.“
Also delivered a goodwill message is Surv. Ganiyu Agunbiade –Surcon President, he said “I am congratulating you for being successful as surveyor of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, it is all as a result of hardwork, and you are now to practice, you are now to grow on your own while observing the ethics and the discipline of the profession.
He said “As surveyor we represent the surveyor council of Nigeria, we are going to be giving you your seal today on loan from the SURCON, that seal can also be recalled, you have to provide services that are required by the members of the public so as to make the profession to be important, I am calling on you as young Surveyors to raise the bar and create employment for yourself.
Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, President, Sur Matthew Ibitoye in his own remarks said” today marks a significant milestone in your professional journey and it is everlasting commitment to the surveying profession, your success in the examination is not merely a product of diligence but materialization of hard work, focus and resilience as you take this important step into this professional recognition, I urge you to remember that your impact must reflect positively in the development of geospatial industry in Nigeria and across the globe.
“The world is evolving rapidly through digital transformation and the relevance of geospatial has never become crucial. The future to surveyors must work towards sustainable development “He advised.
The Registrar of SURCON, Surv. Olakunle Olugbemiro He inducted the newly qualified surveyors into the Surveying Profession, led them in taking the induction Oath and signing the register.
The event was attended by some top government officials, relevant stakeholders in surveying industry and different experts in town and regional planning among others.
