Permanent Secretary charges Civil Servants on transparency.

The new Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Sunday Edet Akpan has charged Civil Servants to be transparent and adhere to the Civil Service Rules and Procurement Procedures.

Mr. Akpan gave the charge during his maiden meeting with the Heads of Units and Departments of the Ministry; adding that if the Ministry must meet local and international expectations, staff must be punctual and dutiful.

He emphasized that Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment was one of the priority Ministries of the current administration and it is expected to deliver dividends of democracy by moving the economy forward. He stated that he was committed to work with the management and staff of the Ministry so as to support their drive.

Mr. Akpan disclosed his plan to meet Heads of Departments and Units to know their mandate and progress, as well as their challenges. Consequently, the schedule of meeting with the various Departments and Units were distributed.

The Permanent Secretary enjoined the staff to work as a team while saying that though the country was not as buoyant as it used to be, impact must be made with the little that was available, as the Federal Government is focused on the recovery of the economy. He urged staff to do their best and trust in God, saying “We believe that by the grace of God we will succeed.”

It will be recalled that Mr. Sunday Edet Akpan who was among the recently appointed Permanent Secretaries in the Federal Civil Service took over from Aminu Aliyu Bissala.

The Director, Policy, Planning Research and Statistics, Mr. Ogeinyi Ochekpe who responded on behalf of other Directors present, assured the Permanent Secretary that management and staffs were aware of the enormous responsibilities and expectations of the Ministry, adding that the Ministry is regarded to as the backbone of the economy. He therefore pledged staff support to the Permanent Secretary, while welcoming him to the Ministry.
