The Chairman of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, OFR, has been conferred with the prestigious award of “A Visionary Leader With Political Will” by the National Union of Civil Servants (NCSU) in recognition of his distinguished leadership and outstanding relationship with the Union, Staff, Management and Members of the Commission.
The award presentation, which took place at the RMAFC Headquarters in Abuja today, Thursday 26th June 2025 brought together union executives from the National Council, Federal Council, and Commission chapters, all of whom paid glowing tributes to Dr. Shehu’s transparent, inclusive, and responsive leadership style.
In his remarks, Dr. Shehu thanked the Union for the honour and reaffirmed his belief in open dialogue and mutual respect as the foundation for productive industrial relations. “I have always maintained that leadership must be rooted in sincerity and fairness. From the onset of my tenure, I made a deliberate effort to listen to the concerns of staff and engage the Union constructively. I believe this approach has been key to the peaceful and cooperative atmosphere we enjoy at the Commission today,” he said.
Reflecting on his philosophy, Dr. Shehu added, “As someone raised by a father who served as both a civil servant and a community leader, I understand the values of humility, service, and engagement. I have no interest in influencing union decisions or elections. I respect the autonomy of workers to choose their representatives, and I am committed to working with whomever they elect in good faith and partnership.”
The National Vice President of the Union, Comrade Ganiyat Adeogun, who represented the NCSU National Chairman, Comrade Adoga Rufada, echoed this sentiment. She commended the harmony between Chairman, Management, and the staff union, stating that “such a productive relationship is only possible under a purposeful, transparent, and people-centred leadership.”
Speaking in the same vein, Comrade Gbenga Olowoyo, the Union’s General Secretary, praised the Chairman’s performance and commitment. He said, “The National Executive has directed me to express deep appreciation to the Chairman and to encourage him to continue his outstanding work. With this level of dedication and leadership, there is no doubt that national honours are within reach.”
Comrade Olowoyo further noted, “The award being presented today is a collective expression of gratitude from the National Federal Council and the Regional Legislative Units of the NCSU for the remarkable achievements the Union has recorded under your leadership.”
Also speaking, Comrade Mohammed Kolo, Auditor of the NCSU Federal Council, described Dr. Shehu’s tenure as a period of “unmatched responsiveness to staff concerns and genuine openness to Union engagement.”
The Chairman of the RMAFC chapter of Nigeria Civil Service Union, Comrade Muhammed Rabiu Enagi pledged his commitment to sustaining the harmonious working relationship between the Commission Chairman and the Union while expressing optimism for greater success in the organisation.
In his remark, Comrade Isa Usman Dagiri, a former Chairman of the RMAFC NCSU Chapter, and an erstwhile Vice Chairman, NCSU Federal Council, applauded the Chairman’s inclusive leadership and reaffirmed the chapter’s support. He led members in a spirited rendition of the Union solidarity anthem, underscoring the depth of goodwill shared between the Union and the Commission’s leadership.
The event concluded with a renewed call for continued collaboration between the Union and the RMAFC leadership, anchored on mutual trust, dialogue, and a shared commitment to institutional excellence.
