………………Celebrates TechGirl Champion, Approves Staff Payments.
FIC Report (Abia State) – In a firm response to the rising cases of cult-related activities and the harassment of innocent citizens, the Abia State Government (ABSG) has directed security agencies to immediately clamp down on perpetrators and restore public safety across the state.
This directive was announced during a press briefing by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, chaired by Governor Alex Otti. Prince Kanu emphasized the government’s zero-tolerance stance towards cultism, drug abuse, and criminality, stating: “The state government has observed with dismay the growing incidence of cult activities in the state. As a responsible government, this administration will spare no effort in ensuring that the state is rid of drug activities and criminal threats.”
In a significant development, the Commissioner disclosed that Governor Otti has approved the payment of disengaged staff of the Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, who were laid off between 2018 and 2022. So far, 249 former staff members have received their payments.
“This is another promise made and kept by His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti. These are names we inherited from the previous administration,” Prince Kanu noted.
On infrastructure, the government announced steady progress in renovation works at the Abia State College of Education Technical (ASCETA), including the college library, auditorium, students’ hostels, and key academic blocks such as the Schools of Technical and Vocational Education.
In a moment of pride for the state, Governor Otti also hosted 15-year-old Miss Grace John Nkpa, who recently won the prestigious TechGirls 2025 contest and will be representing Abia State in the United States. In recognition of her achievement, the Governor gifted her $5,000 in support of her trip.
“Miss Nkpa’s success speaks volumes about the rising standard of education in Abia State,” said the Commissioner.
Several members of the State Executive Council were present at the briefing, underscoring the administration’s collective commitment to security, education, and human capital development.
