The Surveyor General of the Federation, (SGOF) Surv. Abuduganiyu Adebomehin has disclosed that Nigerian Surveyors are creating waves abroad and he enjoined the young surveyors in the country to brace up to the modern realities of the profession through constant acquisition of knowledge and training.
He made this remarks while Young Surveyors Network (YSN) , FCT branch came to his office on excursion today.
Adebomehin said to them “We have had three, four, five of our staff that are creating waves in the United States, some in Australia.. But if you go there, it is not going to be time for anyone to start teaching you. It is time to put you on the line. And one other thing I want to plead with everybody is for us to go and learn all these new technologies in surveying and how to use expert software, because when you are in the country or go abroad your client or employer already believe you have the requisite qualification to work. “
The Head of Hydrography in Office of the Surveyor Generals Office, Surv Robert Coker in his own advice said “You are supposed to think as a businessman. And I want to believe that that is not what we are getting majorly from the polytechnic products. They are not teaching the business side of things. But the university, it’s not as if they elaborated on it, but you should have a business sense. The business side of Surveying is not to exposure the secret of your profession to other parties for you to be relevant, otherwise you will be under estate mated by your clients.“
