FIC Report (Edo State) – In a Swift and Coordinated effort, the Federal Fire Service alongside Edo State Emergency Units successfully averted a major disaster on the outskirts of Benin City, Edo State, on Sunday July 20th, 2025. The incident involved a collision that caused a Petrol tanker carrying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to leak significantly, creating a hazardous situation that could have led to an explosion or widespread damage.
The incident occurred when two heavy-duty vehicles, including the Petrol tanker, collided near the city, resulting in damage to the tanker but no overturn. However, the collision caused a large spill of petrol, which quickly saturated the surrounding area. The strong smell of fuel filled the air, raising fears of a potential explosion that could have endangered the Lives of residents, Pedestrians, and Motorists passing through the area.
Witnesses reported that some individual attempted to scoop fuel from the leaking tanker, increasing the risk of ignition and further increased the risk to public safety. Recognizing the severity of the situation, authorities responded immediately upon receiving distress signals.
The Federal Fire Service’s swift intervention was instrumental in containing the leak, preventing potential ignition, and protecting Public Safety. This action exemplifise the importance of coordinated action seen as a prime example of proactive governance, National-level Emergency response in safeguarding Communities.
