FIC Report (Lagos State) – NIGERIA — The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA), will host the 7th National Council on AIDS (NCA) from August 5 to 7, 2025, at the Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos. This significant event aims to bring together key stakeholders from across Nigeria’s HIV and AIDS ecosystem to review progress, address emerging challenges, and chart strategic pathways for a strengthened HIV response.
The 7th National Council on AIDS will provide a platform for stakeholders to share knowledge, experiences, and best practices in the fight against HIV and AIDS. The event will feature high-level discussions, presentations, and panel sessions, offering a unique opportunity for participants to engage with experts and policymakers in the field.
The event will be officially declared open by the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, on August 5, while the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will deliver the closing address on August 7. The event will also feature a gala night to recognise and honour outstanding contributions while celebrating collective progress in the national HIV response.
LSACA CEO Dr. Folakemi Animashaun, while speaking about the upcoming event on Friday, emphasized the need for sustainable strategies to protect gains and accelerate progress towards ending AIDS by 2030. “With global donor support declining, now more than ever, we must adopt sustainable, homegrown strategies to protect the gains we have made and accelerate progress towards ending AIDS by 2030,” she said.
The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusivity and progress in health initiatives, calling on all stakeholders to participate actively in the Council and contribute to shaping a sustainable future for the HIV and AIDS response in Nigeria.
The 7th National Council on AIDS presents a unique opportunity for stakeholders to come together and work towards a common goal of ending the HIV epidemic in Nigeria. With the theme of sustainability and inclusivity, the event promises to be a landmark moment in the country’s fight against HIV and AIDS.
