The President of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Engr. Prof. Sadiq Zubair Abubakar, FNSE, FAEng, has reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON) and other professional regulatory bodies in the built environment to enhance public safety, promote professionalism, and support sustainable national development.
The COREN President made this known while receiving the Chairman of the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON), Bldr. Samson Ameh Opaluwah, and members of his delegation during a courtesy visit to the COREN Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.
Engr. Prof. Abubakar emphasized that the growing complexities of Nigeria’s built environment demand stronger inter-professional collaboration, mutual respect among regulatory institutions, and strict compliance with professional and regulatory standards.
“The safety of our built environment is a shared responsibility. Strong collaboration among professional regulatory bodies is indispensable if we are to achieve sustainable infrastructure development, uphold professional standards, and protect lives and property,” the COREN President stated.
He reiterated the Council’s readiness to continue implementing existing collaborative frameworks with CORBON and other stakeholders, stressing that such partnerships remain critical to advancing engineering excellence, strengthening regulatory effectiveness, and supporting the Federal Government’s infrastructure development agenda.
Earlier, the Chairman of CORBON, Bldr. Samson Ameh Opaluwah, congratulated the COREN President on the successful hosting of the 34th COREN Engineering Assembly, describing the event as a remarkable demonstration of COREN’s leadership in advancing engineering regulation and promoting public safety in Nigeria.
He commended the cordial relationship between CORBON and COREN, noting that the partnership, which has been strengthened through an existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), has fostered greater cooperation between both institutions and facilitated the successful implementation of several joint initiatives.
“Our collaboration with COREN has demonstrated that when regulators in the built environment work together rather than in competition, the nation benefits. We are committed to building on this partnership as the Eighth Council assumes office,” Bldr. Opaluwah said.
The CORBON Chairman informed the COREN President that the tenure of the Seventh Council had successfully ended and that preparations were underway for the inauguration of the Eighth Council. He expressed confidence that the incoming Council would consolidate on the achievements of its predecessor by deepening collaboration with COREN and other stakeholders in the built environment.
He further highlighted the efforts of the outgoing Council to promote greater cohesion within the building profession by bringing builders, building technologists, building technicians, and artisans under a coordinated regulatory framework that encourages professionalism, competence, and adherence to best practices.
Both organizations reaffirmed their shared commitment to sustaining their strategic partnership and strengthening cooperation among professionals in the built environment to improve regulatory outcomes, enhance public safety, and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
