FIC Report (Osun State) – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State has formally issued the notice of the 2026 governorship election to political parties and stakeholders within the state officially signalling the start of the electoral process.
Speaking at an expanded stakeholders’ meeting in Osogbo on Wednesday, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mutiu Agboke, said the notice had been posted in all 30 local government offices of INEC across the state, as well as the area office in Modakeke.
Agboke recalled that INEC headquarters released the timetable and schedule of activities for the election on May 27, 2025, noting that the issuance of the notice marked the formal commencement of all activities leading to the poll.
According to him, political parties are to conduct their primaries – including the resolution of disputes – between November 24 and December 15, 2025, in line with Section 84 of the Electoral Act, 2022.
He added that the submission of Forms EC9 (personal particulars of candidates) and EC9B (list of nominated candidates) via INEC’s online nomination portal will open at 9 a.m. on January 15, 2026, and close at 6 p.m. on February 9, 2026.
“Access codes for the submission of nomination forms will be available for collection at the commission’s headquarters from December 15, 2025,” the REC stated, urging parties to adhere strictly to the timetable and ensure peaceful, transparent primaries.
Mutiu Agboke, the INEC Resident electoral commissioner said the continuous voter registration would commence soon and he assured electorates that their votes would count and that the commission would be transparent and impartial.
He told the participants to rise up to continue to support INEC Osun State so as to deliver peaceful and successful election in 2026. ” In togetherness we shall all achieve the desired outcome of our election”,he said.
” For the purpose of emphasis,let me state the unwavering commitment of INEC in Osun State to transparency,fairness and professionalism. We are deploying all available technology for the CVR,that is INEC voter Enrollment Device, BVAS , and at the same time continue to engage stake holders and update members of the public of various developments at every stage of our activities.”
He therefore warn against vote buying and violence as cankerworm which needs to be dealt with as this prevent credible election.
Agboke implored the youth to shun violence, refused to be used as and agent of destruction.
INEC remains committed to the people with disabilities (PWDs) in inclusive to electoral process in the Electoral Act 2022 as they would be taken care of. Provision such as Braille ballot guide for visually impaired voters, magnifying glasses for the low visions people, provision of of assistive listening devices for persons with hearing impairment and allowing for priority voting queues for the elderly and pregnant women are on ground to see that they are not disenfranchised.
The event pulled together major stake holders including the political parties, the media, religious organization, Ministries Heads and so on. And they all pledge their commitment to the success of the forth coming election.
