FIC Report (Lagos State) – Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has declared that Nigeria’s youthful population is its greatest asset in the quest for global economic influence, provided it is properly harnessed.
The Governor made this known while delivering the inaugural Distinguished Lecture of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) in Lagos, themed “Lagos and Nigeria 2030: Projections of a World Power.” He said Nigeria’s 100 million young people under the age of 20 form a critical force that can position the nation as a global powerhouse in technology, innovation, and economic growth.
Sanwo-Olu noted that the reforms of President Bola Tinubu’s administration —including petrol subsidy removal, foreign exchange unification, and fiscal reforms — have set the country on the path to achieving its ambition of a $1 trillion economy by 2030. He stressed, however, that Lagos remains Nigeria’s economic engine, describing it as the “laboratory for growth and innovation” essential to unlocking national prosperity.
The Governor also announced his decision to endow a Foreign Policy School at the NIIA to strengthen research and policy development in diplomacy.
