‎‎Pensioners Should Reciprocate Governor Yusuf’s Good Gesture – Ayuba Wabba

FIC Report (Kano State) – ‎Former President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ayuba Wabba, has urged pensioners in Kano State to show gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his commitment to their welfare, by reciprocating the gesture in 2027.

‎Wabba made the call during the payment of the fifth tranche of retirees’ gratuities and death benefits in Kano.

‎The exercise, supervised by the governor, marked another step in clearing the huge backlog of entitlements owed to retired workers.

‎The labour leader commended Governor Yusuf for settling ₦27 billion out of the ₦48 billion liability he inherited from past administrations, describing it as a demonstration of political will and genuine concern for workers who had served the state diligently.

‎“This is not something to joke with,” Wabba said. “Clearing such a debt requires courage, planning, and compassion. Pensioners must never forget this gesture and should ensure they return the favour in 2027.”

‎He noted that across the country, pensioners often languish without pay, leading to untold hardship and in some cases deaths.

‎He therefore praised Kano for setting a benchmark in workers’ welfare and challenged other states to emulate the gesture.

‎Wabba further stressed that the governor’s move had rekindled confidence in government among retired workers, many of whom had lost hope of ever receiving their benefits.
