FIC Report (Kaduna State) – The State Government, in collaboration with international partners, UNICEF, WHO, has launched a comprehensive measles and Rubella vaccination campaign aimed at reaching over 4.2 million children across all 23 local government areas.
The launch of the integrated measles and Rubella immunization campaign with an expressed commitment to ending threats of the diseases through out the state.
Dr. Hamza Ibrahim Ikara, a Director Primary Health Care Agency said the campaign has set an ambitious target of vaccinating approximately 4.2 million aged between 9 months and 14 years.
The drive is a critical step in bolstering child immunity and addressing the persistent challenge of zero-dose children in the region.
This wide-reaching effort is designed to create a robust shield against measles and rubella, ensuring every child in the state, regardless of their previous vaccination status, is protected from these preventable diseases.
This initiative also directly confronts the issue of”zero-dose” children, those who have never received a single vaccine.
Dr. Hamza Ibrahim Ikara, highlighted the scale of the problem, noting that 10 local governments in the state are affected, accounting for nearly 10% of all zero-dose local governments in Nigeria. These areas are estimated to have over 4,000 zero-dose individuals.
The success of this campaign is bolstered by a coalition of support.
Dr. Hamza Ibrahim acknowledged the relentless efforts of community women and development partners, whose work is now being amplified by major organizations including UNICEF, the World Health Organization (WHO), and others.
These groups are working hand-in-hand with the state government to ensure the campaign’s strategies are effectively implemented on the ground.
According to him, With strong governmental backing and international support, this vaccination campaign represents a significant leap forward for public health in the state.
Dr. Hamza Ibrahim stated, approving the endeavor, this coordinated push is expected to dramatically reduce the number of zero-dose children and build a healthier future for the state’s youngest residents.
He said “We are combating measles, rubella, and other vaccine-preventable diseases such as polio, we must remain united and vigilant.
Immunization is not the responsibility of government alone; it is a collective obligation of parents, caregivers, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community volunteers.
He urge every parent across all 23 Local Government Areas to please present your children for vaccination.”
He stated that no child will be left behind as the immunization team will visit Schools, Markets, and all communities to conduct the vaccination and urged parents and children to take advantage of the Ten Days period of the campaign to be immunized.
