The Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology is set to collaborate with the University of Sussex and United Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in advancing Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) in the Country.
Speaking at a one day stakeholders workshop today, in Abuja with the theme; “Strengthening Synergy between the National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy and the Notional Industrial Policy for Inclusive Economic Growth and Sustainable Development”, The Permanent Secretary, Mrs Esuabana Nko Asanye said that nations that have successfully integrated Innovation driven policies into their Industrial strategies have achieved remarkable transformation by creating jobs, enhancing productivity and building resilience in the face of global economic shift.
Esuabana further said that West Africa, through deliberate Policy coherence and collaboration will not be left behind in the struggle for technological breakthrough that will enhance socio-economic transformation of the region.
She pointed out that the National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy (NSTIP) provides a comprehensive framework for harnessing research, knowledge creation and technological advancement that stimulate Industrial growth, enhance productivity and promote economic diversification as well as position Innovation as the engine that powers every sector of the economy.
Asanye also noted that the National Industrial Policy serve as a strategic Blueprint for transforming the nation into a globally competitive industrial powerhouse that prioritizes commercialization of research outputs which will enhance Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the Country.
She added that the strength of any industrialized nation lies not mostly in its policies but in its execution, coordination and commitment that will enhance economic development of the nation.
Speaking, the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Industry Trade and Investment Amb. Nura Rimi who was represented by Mr. Simon Omo-Ezomo said that West Africa stands at a pivotal moment where Science, Technology and Innovation will translate potential into durable Industrialization, creating jobs, boosting productivity and expanding opportunity across all nations for socio-economic transformation.
Earlier the Director, Planning Research and Policy Analyst Department Mrs. Salamtu Mohammed commented UNIDO for their unwavering support in advancing STI as well as stakeholders engagement and also expressed profound appreciation for their continued partnership with Nigeria.
