………Extols His Public Service Credentials as Statesman, Leader and Mentor to Many.
The Director-General, Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC), Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, has described the passing of Alhaji Bamanga Muhammad Tukur, a former Governor of Gongola State and erstwhile National Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), as an immense loss to Nigeria.
In a tribute to the late leader, a copy of which he made available to his media handlers in Abuja on Sunday, the NTAC boss said:
“Alhaji Bamanga Tukur stood among Nigeria’s distinguished statesmen whose remarkable journey in public service, politics and administration reflected a life devoted to the progress and unity of our nation.”
The rest of the piece, entitled “TRIBUTE TO ALH. BAMANGA MUHAMMAD TUKUR: STATESMAN, POLITICIAN, TECHNOCRAT AND MAN OF SERVICE”, reads:
“I received with sadness the news of the passing of our dear Father, Leader and Mentor, His Excellency, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, CON.
“Until the light dimmed a few days ago, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur stood among Nigeria’s distinguished statesmen whose remarkable journey in public service, politics and administration reflected a life devoted to the progress and unity of our nation.
“As a politician, technocrat and administrator, he contributed meaningfully to Nigeria’s national development and democratic evolution. Across the different responsibilities entrusted to him, Alhaji Tukur demonstrated an enduring commitment to public service, institution-building and the advancement of the common good.
“His career also reflected the value of experience, resilience and patriotism in national life. Beyond the offices he occupied, Alhaji Tukur’s greatest legacy remains the impact of his contributions to Nigeria and the generations of leaders and citizens who have drawn inspiration from his example.
“Our people and nation will greatly miss these attributes of this man of service.
“For those of us privileged to serve Nigeria today, the life and times of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur offer an important reminder that public office is ultimately about service, responsibility and leaving society better than one found it.
“It is unfortunate that our dear State, Adamawa, and, indeed, Nigeria as a whole, lost this rare gem at a time when his experience, direction and political sagacity would have been a valuable asset as we gear up for the 2027 General Elections.
“On behalf of the Management and staff of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps, which I currently lead, I commiserate with the Government and people of Adamawa State and, indeed, all Nigerians on the unfortunate passing of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.
“I equally salute the memory of Alhaji Tukur’s decades of service to our fatherland and celebrate his enduring place in Nigeria’s national story.
“May Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings and grant him sweet repose in Aljannatul Firdaus. Ameen.”
The late politician and national leader will be remembered for his service to the old Gongola State, his tenure as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, his service as National Chairman of the then-ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), as well as his stewardship of the Nigerian Ports Authority.
