The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, extends warm congratulations to His Excellency, Teté António, Minister of External Relations of the Republic of Angola, as the nation commemorates its 50th Independence Anniversary.

This milestone stands as a testament to the resilience, unity, and determination of the Angolan people in their pursuit of freedom, peace, and national development. As a steadfast partner in Angola’s struggle for Independence, Nigeria joins in celebrating this historic occasion, reaffirming the shared values of independence, progress, and African solidarity.

Nigeria and Angola continue to enjoy cordial and mutually beneficial relations, strengthened through cooperation in trade, energy, security, and multilateral engagements. A recent demonstration of this partnership was the signing of multiple agreements during the latest session of the Nigeria/Angola Joint Commission held in Luanda, Angola. Both countries also collaborate closely within the African Union.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs further appreciates the Angolan Government for recently recognising three distinguished Nigerians – late Head of State, General Murtala Mohammed; former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and renowned diplomat, Professor Ibrahim Gambari. The awards, presented in Luanda by President Joan Manuel Lourenço, acknowledged Nigeria’s decisive role in the Angolan liberation struggle and its enduring commitment to African solidarity and Pan-Africanism.

On this auspicious occasion, Nigeria reaffirms its readiness to deepen bilateral relations with Angola, explore new areas of partnership, and promote greater people-to-people ties for the mutual benefit of both nations.

Once again, Nigeria conveys her warmest felicitations to the Government and people of the Republic of Angola, with best wishes for continued peace, prosperity, and national advancement.
