FIC Report (Nasarawa State) – Nigeria’s First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu has empowered 250 persons living with disabilities with 200,000 Naira each under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) to enable them start small businesses with a view to reducing dependency, poverty and insecurity.

She made this known while addressing less-privileged beneficiaries during the commemoration of this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities in Lafia on Wednesday.

Mrs. Tinubu explained that the initiative covers 9,500 persons with disabilities across Nigeria, amounting to over one billion Naira.

She said in Nasarawa State, 250 persons with disabilities would benefit from the programme with the sum of 200,000 thousand each to enable them start small businesses.

According to her, RHI seeks to promote inclusive growth and shared prosperity by ensuring that no Nigerian is left behind, especially those whose needs are often overlooked.

Represented by the Commissioner of Women Affairs and Humanitarian Services, Barr. Hauwa Jugbo added that in the past two years, the Initiative has supported over 100,000 petty traders and small business owners, including persons with disabilities through direct financial grants to enhance economic and disability inclusion.

She emphasized that the Federal Government is committed to improving the lives of vulnerable individuals through various intervention schemes such as agriculture, economic empowerment, education, health and social welfare aimed at prioritizing the well-being of families across the country.

Speaking, Nasarawa State First Lady, Silifat Abdullahi Sule acknowledged the commitment of Mrs. Tinubu through the RHI by empowering thousands of vulnerable Nigerians, believing that it took them out of poverty.

She called on the beneficiaries to continue to support the President Bola Tinubu administration to enable him succeed in discharging his responsibilities.

Some beneficiaries, Esther Awu and Haruna Muhammad appreciated the First Lady for empowering them, promising to use the grants judiciously.
