FIC REPORT (OSUN STATE) – Following the continuous heavy rain fall during this rainy season in osogbo and some parts of the state which has resulted in the flooding of some areas after the river overflowed it’s bank,the residents of the state has called on both the Federal and State governments to come to their aid and give quick relief materials to them for their great loss.
This disaster has led to displacement of people, loss of properties worth millions of naira and disruptions of both private and government infrastructures.
During the visit by our crew at the centre we discovered that some areas within the state capital such as Isaleosun, Iwota, Ring road, Baruwa estate and many areas were worst – hitted.
The affected areas outside Osogbo are Ilesa west, Ijaregbe and Ijana.
Also in Ilesa the bridge linking Ijaregbe community to Ilesa town collapsed cutting off movement of people , goods and services.
This development has rendered many residents displaced of their properties worth millions of naira.
In the findings by our crew, it was discovered that some of the affected areas were as a result of dumping of refuse on water way, erection of houses close to water banks and set backs near rivers.
Mr Aregbesola one of affected residents begged the government to provide immediate provisions of relief materials to them as nearly all their properties have been carted away by flood.
In the same vein,Mr Adegbola,a retired teacher and pensioner appealed to the government to dredge river Osun and clearing of all blocked drainages.
“The flood disaster in the state require urgent and proper intervention in drainage and dredging control to prevent future recurrence, especially as the rainy season continues”,he said.
