NCPWD Embarks on Medical Outreach, Treats Over 150 with various Medical Conditions

The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), on Thursday, 18th December, 2025, touched the lives of persons with disabilities through a medical outreach for persons with disabilities in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

The outreach carried out in Karonmajiji, FCT, Abuja, with the support of the Commission’s development partners like TLM, CHAI, CBM, and SightSavers witnessed the treatment of over one hundred and fifty persons with disabilities including children with various health threatening conditions treated for better livelihood.

The Executive Secretary, NCPWD, Hon. Ayuba Gufwan Burki, represented by the Director of Social Integration, Mr. Lawrence Edelifo Idemudia said the outreach was aimed at assisting persons with disabilities (PWDs) with the necessary medical treatment on some of the health challenges facing them.

He noted that, without good health, human productivity would be hampered, stating that the Commission was deeply concerned for the overall health conditions of the persons with disabilities.

Hon. Ayuba stated that, the commission was preparing to rollout a broader and more encompassing medical programme after this pilot intervention so that a broader spectrum of persons with disabilities will be accommodated.
He urged the beneficiaries to cooperate with the medical team to ensure that the pilot phase succeeds to the benefit of the persons with disabilities.

Sarkin Guragu, FCT, Abuja, Alhaji Muhammed Suleiman Katsina, on behalf of persons with disabilities in Abuja, expressed appreciation and gratitude to the Commission for initiating the laudable programme for persons with disabilities, saying, the exercise has again among other initiatives proven that the Commission was deeply committed to the well-being of persons with disabilities (PWDs).

Chief of the Blind, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Alhaji Bala Jibrin, also expressed appreciation and noted that he is happy that the plight of persons with disabilities is being looked into by the Commission in the area of health.

He said that for the Commission to be concerned for the people’s health, even before illnesses arise, is a clear demonstration of genuine care and love for the vulnerable groups in the society.

The outreach carried out by the Commission was supervised by the Department of Social Integration in the Commission.
