… …says FCSC will develop through innovations and strategic thinking.
The Permanent Secretary, Dr Emeka Vitalis Obi, has urged staff to maintain a positive mindset toward the Commission, noting that its challenges are not insurmountable. He also said that staff should not only think outside the box but also think differently to help the Commission overcome its challenges.
The new Permanent Secretary stated this during his first meeting with the Union and the Commission’s staff.
The Permanent Secretary, who was redeployed from the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources to the Commission, assumed the role from the former Permanent Secretary, Mr Ndiomu Ebiogeh Philip, who was also posted to the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, He said that wherever staff find themselves, they should make long-lasting, impactful changes, rather than merely adapting to the place.
According to him, as civil servants move from one MDA to another, it was necessary for them to contribute to the development of the organisation they found themselves. The PS, who commended the staff for their dedication despite limited resources, said staff should move beyond being part of the problem to be part of the solution. The helmsman further noted that problems affecting the Commission are not unique to it, as various MDAs face their own challenges. He told the staff to focus on solutions rather than problems.
He asserts that the Commission should not be a baby seeking sympathy and empathy, but rather an organisation that is highly innovative and an intellectual think tank churning out solutions through intrinsic thinking to change the current narrative within the Commission. He disclosed that the Commission’s leadership has the intellectual capital to turn things around.
Listening earlier to the comments, complaints and challenges from staff and union, the PS said the Commission was one of the 14 Executive body found in the constitution with empowerment mandates to carry out its statutory duties. He said the Commission needs funding to deliver its duties, and staff also need funding to perform. He disclosed that reversing the challenges staff mentioned would be gradually handled within the available resources.
Recognizing the harrowing experiences FCSC Sport Team faced at FEPSGA event in Adamawa State in November, Obi solicited for the cooperation of the union and staff to resolve the situation. He stated that he has taken a mental note of the problem; and FCSC leadership alone cannot find solution to them without the collective support of the staff. He stated that his doors are always open to staff.
He assured staff that their welfare would be paramount, and issues of funding is being handled carefully for it not to be a problem for the Commission activities and staff welfare.
The meeting was attended by senior management staff, including the Director (Finance and Administration)-Mrs. Jumbo Obenachi Renner and Director (Promotion) – Mr. Lawal Dahiru Muhammed.
