FIC Report (Benue State) – The Permanent secretary Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA) Sir James Iorpuu PHD said Benue State Government is Committed to bringing long-term solutions for internally Displaced Persons in the State.
He made this known to journalists on Thursday 12 February 2026 during the monthly Distribution of Food and Non-food Items to Internally Displaced Person (IDPs) Across the State.
Sir iorpuu “said today marks yet another significant step in our collective commitment to alleviating the plight of our brothers and sisters who have been displaced by insecurity and other emergencies across Benue State.
Nothing that with a deep sense of responsibility and compassion that they commence the distribution of food and non-food items to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) across various Local Government Areas of our dear state.
The intervention was not merely about distributing relief materials; it was about restoring hope, reaffirming dignity, and demonstrating that the government remains responsive to the needs of its people, especially the most vulnerable in the state.
He said,Under the purposeful and compassionate leadership of His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, the Benue State Government has continued to prioritise humanitarian response, safe return, and sustainable resettlement of displaced persons that exercise reflects the government unwavering commitment.
The items being distributed include essential food commodities to address immediate nutritional needs, as well as non-food items aimed at improving living conditions in the camps and host communities. We are mindful that while relief materials cannot replace lost homes and livelihoods, they provide critical support and temporary stability as we work towards durable solutions.
He assured all stakeholders that this distribution process is guided by transparency, accountability, and fairness. Beneficiary data has been carefully verified to ensure that assistance reaches those genuinely affected. Every item released is intended strictly for the benefit of IDPs.
He sincerely appreciated humanitarian partners, security agencies, community leaders, camp officials, and the dedicated staff of Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), who have worked tirelessly to make this exercise possible. Your collaboration continues to strengthen our humanitarian response framework.
Assuring the displaced brothers and sisters, that there are not forgotten. Government remains committed to supporting you not only through relief interventions but also through long-term recovery initiatives, including livelihood support, agricultural programmes, and coordinated plans for the safe return to your ancestral homes.
Distributing the items he urge everyone to maintain order, patience, and mutual respect. Together, we will continue to build resilience and restore stability across our communities.
Items to be distributed included 4,155, 25kg bags of Rice, Beans 760, 25kg bags, Garri 550, 25kg bags, noodles 768 cartons, Groundnut oil 40 gallons, palm oil 142 gallons, Maggi 32 cartons, Mats 465 pieces, Tom Brown 31 cartons, salt 19 bags, 50 bale of clothes and 117 bags of sugar.
He further stated that with the increased intervention from the state government and other donor agencies the agency will be attending to the needs of 15 IDP Camps, Refugee Camp at Ikyogen and communities in Jato Aka. Mama Abaiyol orphanage, School for Special needs Aliade, Juvenile School in Gboko, Rehabilitation School Apir, School for Special needs Vandeikya, Teach the World wide School Gboko, Adaka Displaced Persons Camp, Apa,Gwer East,Ukum and Agatu.
