FIC Report (Lagos State) – The Nigerian Comptroller General of Customs, Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has commissioned the Lagos Free Zone’s “Green Channel”, a customs-approved logistics corridor designed to fast-track cargo movement and enhance trade facilitation. Speaking yesterday (11th February, 2026) at the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Adeniyi emphasized the initiative’s potential to boost Nigeria’s trade facilitation and economic growth.
“The Green Channel is a game-changer for Nigeria’s trade landscape,” Dr. Adeniyi said. “By reducing cargo clearance time and logistics costs, we are enhancing our competitiveness and positioning Nigeria as a hub for trade and production in West Africa.”
Adesuwa Ladoja, Managing Director/CEO of Lagos Free Zone, echoed the sentiment, stating, “The Green Channel provides Lagos Free Zone-based companies with a decisive operational advantage by enabling cargo to move seamlessly from vessel to factory or warehouse through a secure customs-controlled route.”
The Green Channel is expected to reduce cargo clearance time from 24-48 hours to a matter of hours, lower logistics and demurrage costs, and provide a predictable supply chain. According to Ladoja, this will enhance competitiveness for manufacturers and exporters, with regulatory certainty and full customs oversight.
The Nigerian government expects the Green Channel to support the country’s trade facilitation objectives, enhance regional competitiveness, and strengthen Nigeria’s role as a West African trade and production hub.
Key benefits of the Green Channel include:
- Reduced cargo clearance time
- Lower logistics costs
- Predictable supply chain
- Enhanced competitiveness
- Regulatory certainty
The commissioning of the Green Channel is a significant step towards boosting Nigeria’s trade facilitation and economic growth, drawing inspiration from successful models like Singapore’s Free Trade Zones and Dubai’s Free Zone, which have driven economic growth and attracted international investment
