Imo Stakeholders Pledge Support For EFCC’s Anti-Corruption Campaign

FIC Report (Imo State) – Key stakeholders in Imo State have pledged their support to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in its ongoing fight against corruption and financial crimes.

The commitment was expressed during a familiarization and sensitization visit by senior officials of the Commission led by the Acting Director of the Awka Zonal Directorate of the EFCC, Ofen-imu Atiba.

Among the stakeholders who reaffirmed their readiness to collaborate with the Commission were the Director of the Department of State Services in Imo State, U. G. Dunkwu; the Chief Judge of Imo State, I. O. Agugua; and the Eze Imo and Eze Udo II of the Amaifeke Ancient Kingdom, E. C. Okeke.

During the engagements, the EFCC Acting Zonal Director explained that preliminary crime analysis within the Awka Directorate’s jurisdiction, covering Imo and Anambra State, indicated that public sector corruption, land and property fraud, tax-related offences, cybercrime, bank fraud and open market abuses remain the most prevalent economic crimes in the area.

He noted that these offences undermine public trust, discourage investment and pose serious challenges to sustainable economic development in the region.

The EFCC official further stated that the establishment of the Awka Zonal Directorate was part of the Commission’s strategy to strengthen the fight against corruption by bringing its operations closer to the people and improving enforcement across the Southeast.

He explained that the initiative aligns with the anti-corruption drive of the Chairman of the EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, aimed at tackling economic and financial crimes more effectively across the federation while promoting a conducive environment for legitimate businesses to thrive.

The stakeholders commended the Commission’s efforts and expressed readiness to work with the EFCC to promote transparency, accountability and integrity in public and private sector activities.
